Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, delivered a commanding 4–0 victory over Grenada in an international friendly played as part of the FIFA Series hosted in Rwanda. The match was attended by President Paul Kagame, whose presence added to the occasion at a lively stadium.
The fixture marked the first game in charge for head coach Stephen Constantine, recently appointed earlier this month. It also provided a platform for several debutants, including brothers Joy-Lance Mickles and Jacques Mickles.
Amavubi began the match with clear attacking intent, creating early chances through the Mickles duo. However, it took until first-half stoppage time to break the deadlock. On 45+2 minutes, Jacques Mickles marked his debut with a goal, finishing off a well-worked move assisted by Kwizera Jojea.
Momentum quickly swung in Rwanda’s favor, and just three minutes later (45+5), Jojea doubled the lead after being set up by Biramahire Abeddy, giving the hosts a comfortable 2–0 advantage heading into the break.
Rwanda maintained control in the second half, continuing to press forward. Midfielder Bizimana Djihad extended the lead in the 67th minute, effectively putting the match beyond Grenada’s reach.
Coach Constantine utilized the opportunity to rotate his squad, introducing several substitutes including Hakim Sahabo, who made an immediate impact. In the 80th minute, Sahabo capped off an impressive individual performance with a well-taken goal to seal the 4–0 victory.
The result represents a strong and encouraging start for Constantine’s tenure, showcasing both attacking efficiency and squad depth.
In the day’s earlier match, Estonia edged Kenya 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw.
Rwanda will return to action on Monday against Estonia, while Kenya face Grenada in the next round of fixtures.
