Al Hilal Raises Concerns Over CAF Handling of RS Berkane Case

Al Hilal SC has publicly expressed serious concerns regarding the handling of its ongoing case involving RS Berkane by the Confederation of African Football Disciplinary Committee.

In an official statement released on Monday, Al Hilal confirmed that it had received CAF’s response concerning a complaint initially filed by RS Berkane. The case centers on a temporary suspension imposed on March 14, 2026, which was later lifted following a request submitted by the Moroccan club.

According to Al Hilal, the request to lift the suspension was sent via email in the early hours of the same day the sanction was issued. CAF reportedly approved the request within three days. However, the Sudanese giants argue that the decision was made without providing justification, without convening a formal hearing, and without adhering to the procedures outlined in CAF’s disciplinary regulations.

The club further claims that no other parties involved were consulted or informed during the process, describing the decision as “unprecedented” — particularly in a case involving allegations of ineligible player participation.

Al Hilal also raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, noting that CAF’s recent correspondence did not clarify whether the official responsible for lifting the suspension had recused themselves from the case. The club has called for either the withdrawal of the official or the appointment of a new authority to oversee the proceedings.

Failing that, Al Hilal has indicated it will formally raise the issue before the disciplinary hearing.

The hearing has been scheduled for April 9, 2026 — just two days before a crucial semi-final fixture — a timeline the club suggests could impact the fairness of the competition.

Despite the controversy, Al Hilal expressed confidence that CAF will ultimately deliver a fair ruling and uphold the integrity of African football. The club reiterated its commitment to defending its rights through the proper legal channels.

The case is expected to draw significant attention across the continent as it unfolds, with potential implications for governance and disciplinary standards within African football.
